Of the characters in the series Ryoko is the most flirtateous. Ryoko draws her power from three gems: one around her neck and one per wrist. Ryoko is a demon who was sealed in the cave near the Misaki Shrine. She was released when Tenchi accidentally destroy the Tenchi-ken's "blade" on the rock in the cave. You'd think that she'd be more thankful considering he released her and restored her beauty.
She is an Oni, an ancient Japanese devil. She was created by Washu using using the lifeform known as mass and her egg cells. Because of this Washu calls Ryoko her daughter rather than her invention. When Zero cloned she also absorbed all of her emotions also. Because of Ryoko's strong feelings for Tenchi, Zero could not perform her mission. Eventually Washu combined Ryoko and Zero(with Ryoko's consent). Ryoko's rival for Tenchi's affection is Aeka. Aeka is the first crowned princess of the Jurai royal family. While Ryoko is outgoing and adventurous , Aeka is more calm and cool(most of the time).
Not much is known about Ryoko's past before her confrentation with Yosho. At the time she was under control by Kagato. He managed to control her after imprisoning Washu and taking the Soja. Kagato used her in the only sucessful assault on planet Jurai. The power in her gems is so similar to that of Jurai's trees that she was able to enter Jurai's borders. During the battle and ship she shot, fell into a building. Young princess Sasami was in that building looking at the Jurain trees, fell to her death. Her mission was to capture Tsunami when she failed she had to run. Yosho pursued her to earth where he defeated her. He then sealed her in the cave near the Misaki Shrine.
She spent 700 years in said cave. While trapped she created a pseudo-gem that was used in the battle against Tenchi. That gem was incomplete when Tenchi found her. It was destroyed during the battle when tenchi cut off her hand. While Tenchi was growing up she was able to watch him grow up and fell in love with him when he got older.
